Last Thursday, the whole Zemanta team gathered in our Ljubljana office to work on ideas for our second summer HackDay. Some of the ideas mentioned may at some point become features of Zemanta.
Šam created a service that would send a daily digest of blogs one is reading into Google Reader. The new blog posts would be grouped by topics and keywords using semantic capabilities of Zemanta.
Greg and Dušan worked on a dashboard that would show the most active Zemanta users as well as topics and trending articles in the blogosphere. It was good to see a sales guy dipping his toes in the development waters for the first time. Some day, we’ll do a SalesDay where developers will be challenged to try their best at selling.
Gape and Boštjan came with a great idea on how to integrate Yelp reviews into Zemanta recommendations. Mateja and Tin tried to turn the Zemanta experience into a game. They came up with many interesting ideas that might make Zemanta even more fun in the future.
Andraž analyzed the average response times of our API for the past 4 years. Tom worked on a trending topics ticker. This feature may find itself into the next iteration of the Zemanta web site.
Andrei’s presentation was the flashiest. He used Gource to visualize the four years of history of development of Zemanta front-end. The amazing video is available here.
Last but not least, we had a special guest at the HackDay. Steve Kashishian of Basno did a visualization of geographic distribution of readers of blogs enhanced by Zemanta. The visualization was done using webgl-globe.
