Zemanta on TechCrunch (again)

You can find the TC post here, but the background is more interesting:

When TechCrunch decided to open up the API of the CrunchBase we got really excited. CrunchBase is probably the most comprehensive database on tech startups, founders, investors and tech big companies.

We immediately decided to integrate it into our suggestion engine. In very next iteration in August we had it done. The behavior from user’s perspective is simple – when you mention a company Zemanta automatically notices that and suggests proper links and images. The implementation is however far from simple – try programatically separating mentions of ”There” as a place and “There” as a company (competitor to Kaneva). Well Zemanta can do it!

We are trying hard to be on the forefront of offering the best technology paired with carefully planned user experience. And we are happy that TechCrunch noticed that.

And for developers we are offering Zemanta semantic API too. You can put in text and get back structured list of people mentioned. We are also helping to reconcile CrunchBase data with Wikipedia data, but that is a story for some other post.
