Demo impressions

I thought I’ll be able to do some live blogging from the conference, but unfortunately, I’ve been taken back by the famous high-tech conference virus - lack of bandwidth. The only conference where I could use wireless efficiently was LeWeb3, kudos to them!
Otherwise, Demo.com is quite a ride, partly because of density and diversity of companies presenting revolutionary products, partly because of a great venue in the middle of the dessert and golf courses (note the oxymoron), and partly because of very interesting people who are gathered here and happy to discuss the future of technology while sipping coffee and waiting for the next demo.
We were very proud to see our good friends from UK launching their next generation collaboration platform here - check Huddle.net, they’re great! Among other new services, I can suggest ribbit, xtranormal, hubdub, youchoose, and Sprout.

It’s been a while since we’ve traveled, so we decided it was time to pay a visit to the west coast. So hi from underneath the famous hill sign! Me and Ales just got to Los Angeles, California, because this week, we are going to visit the Demo.com conference.
We are not actually launching here, me and Ales will be just lurking to meet some more interesting people and learn something about properly launching products.
First impressions? (a) life is cheap here, (b) cars are huge, (c) it looks exactly like in the movies. Who would guess right.
We had quite a bad weather forecast, but now that we’re here they’ve changed it to mostly sunny for the whole week. This reminds me of the times in London, where we had roughly 2 rainy days in three months.
Zemanta, bringing sunshine to the coast near you!
4th Le Web 3: it is about bean bags

Conferences are usually busy places with lots of conference rooms and little place for attendees to mingle. It was really refreshing to see a large part of Le Web 3 venue reserved for ones that wanted to discuss their big ideas and show their products more comfortably. There is definitely something special in demoing while sitting in bean bags. Especially if wi-fi “just works” in a positive way and coffee never runs out.
In last three months we went to a number of conferences and made lots of different friends and gave out heaps of business cards. It meant a lot to us to be able to finally show to everyone what we built in a cozy environment without the usual conference stress.
Evento Blog España, the day after

The Spanish Blogging Conference turned out to be a truly great event. Until now we were mostly talking to bloggers who mainly write in English or Slovenian, so being able to speak to a new group of bloggers underlined quite a few of our ideas and showed us where our focus should be. Most specially by supporting local languages and communities and that blogs are a communication tool.
Every group has their own ways of using and living through new technologies, it is also quite remarkable how Spanish bloggers are similar to their Blogging peers in other countries - they don’t care that much about the technology and how it is called, as long as it allows them to get their message to their readers. Having great tools that make it easy is a plus, but as Twitter demonstrated, even 160 characters is enough to do some amazing things.
While Zemanta does not (yet) official support Spanish, I am sure that passion and determination presented will help us greatly when we weight which language to select next.
Special thanks go to Christian, who by doing small pieces of his magic enabled us to be there.
