New Zemanta Wordpress plugin and 2.8 compatibility

Posted by jure, under releases, zemanta on June 9th, 2009

As you probably know, we’re going to see the final version of Wordpress 2.8 released tomorrow. We’ve made sure that Zemanta works greats with Wordpress 2.8 so that you can continue blogging at full speed.

At the same time, we’re also releasing an updated version of Zemanta for Wordpress plugin. The two most notable changes are:

Automatic image upload to your server!

Zemanta plugin can now upload images to your server, for faster display to your readers. You can specify to upload only the images that are inserted by Zemanta or to download all the images that are linking to other servers.

Please note that while we try to give you just blogger friendly licensed photos, it’s up to you to check the licenses. You can easily see the license in image preview in the gallery.

Better debug

With so many different configurations out there, it’s sometimes tricky to figure out why exactly the plugin does not work. We’ve built powerful new debug routines into plugin so that we can help you better.

You can download the plugin from Wordpress Plugins page, or just wait to be prompted for automatic upgrade if you have that option turned on in your Wordpress.

  • Having a problem... I updated Zemanta yesterday while on WP2.7.1 - no issues.

Today I upgraded WP to 2.8. My New Post screen layout was slightly awry (Tags had been shifted to the bottom of column 2, but I moved that back) but there is no sign of the Zemanta auto-links section any more. I've checked the layout options and there's no box to tick to display it.

Tags work fine now I've moved them back to where I want them, images are fine but I have no linking functionality.

Tested on Firefox 3.0.10 and Chrome 3.0.187.0 under Ubuntu
  • Figured out why...

To get the WP AutoUpdate to work I edited my .htaccess file to "force" the use of PHP5. I just commented out the two lines I added and Zemanta now works again...

    The lines were:

    AddType x-mapp-php5 .php
    AddHandler x-mapp-php5 .php

    Interesting.
  • Update to my update...

Working fine on Chrome, still not got any sign of a link section under Firefox.

    Grr.
  • FYI - done a full removal of cookies under Firefox as well. Makes no difference.

There's an issue with links if you have Wordpress plugin enabled and Firefox Extension. Disable the Extension and links will appear. You only need one for Wordpress integration.

We're working on a fix that will allow you to use both plugin and extension and the same time in Firefox. Thanks for letting us know of the problem.

  • Hey, Jure.

I don't have the Firefox add-on / extension. I am only using the plug-in for WordPress.

Thanks for information. We can reproduce the problems and are already
    working on a fix.

  • If only all companies were as swift and reactive as yourselves!

    Thanks :)

The issue is now fixed. Please restart your browser and see if it works
for you now. If it doesn't please clear browser cache and try again :)
  • Fixed!

    Thank you :)
