We're really excited to introduce a new member of our sales team, Mr. Conor Norris. He joined Zemanta last week. A blogger, Spanish aficionado, gardener, snowboarder - what's not to like?
Conor, welcome to Zemanta. But who are you?
I’m a 24-year old that loves snowboarding, cooking, reading, good music, traveling, and meeting new people. I’m pretty easy-going and always up for an adventure.
Where do you come from?
I was born and raised in New Jersey, growing up in a small town called Mountainside, just 45 minutes west of Manhattan. After high school, I went to college at the University of Boulder, Colorado.
You graduated in Spanish language and history. Where does this love for Spanish come from?
When I was 17, my sister and I ventured through Peru and Bolivia. We hiked the Inca Trail, drank mate de coca tea in Cuzco, and explored La Paz. After that trip, I caught the Latin travel bug, and have since visited other parts of South America including Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Honduras. Cuba and Brazil are next on my list.
You even spent some time in Spain? How was that experience?
¡Fenomenal! After spending a semester in Chile (Valparaíso), I studied in Madrid, where I had the opportunity to refine my Castellano, live with a native Spaniard, eat tapas, and watch lots of fútbol. On weekends, I took trips to cities like Barcelona, Valencia, Sevilla, and San Sebastián. After graduating from university, I then returned to Madrid and taught English for 5 months. Es decir, España tiene un lugar en mi corazón.
You also like to garden. What attracts you to that activity? What have you learned from it that can be useful in your professional career?
I frequently spend weekends in New Jersey to escape the hustle and bustle of New York. I enjoy working in the garden, and planted some tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and herbs earlier this spring. I suppose similar to gardening, business relationships are about sowing a seed, then caring for it as it grows. Gardening reinforces the fact that time, energy and patience are key to growth and success.
What did you do before Zemanta? What skills and experience did you bring along?
I was last at FoundersCard (a membership community for entrepreneurs and company founders), where I was on the Member Services team. It was a great opportunity to work with highly successful entrepreneurs to ensure that they were making the most of their membership. I gained valuable experience in CRM, partner relations, sales and renewals.
How did you get involved with Zemanta? Did you hear of Zemanta before joining the team?
I discovered Zemanta while using the Editorial Assistant tool on my WordPress blog. After a bit of research, I soon connected with the New York team, and am thrilled to be here!
What is your role at Zemanta?
While I’m still learning the ins and outs of Zemanta, I’m taking on the role of Client Services Manager. Managing client relationships, onboarding new clients, supporting the sales team and troubleshooting issues are just a few of the tasks that I’ll be owning.
You’re also a blogger. What do you blog about and why?
I’ve had a number of blogs over the year, but have recently made a concerted effort to produce content more consistently in one place, mainly as a personal journal of sorts. Music, sports, gardening, cooking recipes, fictional writing, interviews, and anything else that I’m interested in are all fair game for content.
What blogs do you otherwise follow and would gladly recommend to others?
What’s your message to Zemanta users?
I’m here to answer any questions you may have and help you optimize your usage of Zemanta in anyway possible, so please don’t be a stranger! Please feel free to drop me a line on Twitter (@Conor_Norris) or LinkedIn!
