Greg Gortz – Zemanta meet the team profiles

Spring finally kicked-in and we’re back on track with the rescheduled Meet the Team series, fully adjusted to the new daylight savings time and ready to take over Zemanta’s Casual Fridays. So far we’ve met a bunch of Zemanta’s computer wizards and today it’s time we take a look at the biz development side of affairs a bit.

Come meet Greg Gortz, Zemanta’s newest smart, funny and engaging team member who never leaves home without his phone, key and wallet and likes his rack of lamb, medium rare. The top two items on his to-do list are to grow the Zemanta business and catch up on emails.

Q: Greg, how would you explain Zemanta in three sentences to your eight-year-old relative?

A: Zemanta is a super cool tool that enhances the content of your blog. We can read what you are typing in real time and recommend articles, content, pictures, and videos. We make blogging easier and your content more engaging to your readers.

Q: Was it the fame? The glory? What attracted you to working for Zemanta?

A: A smart, cool product that performs well and has a great team behind it and has a fan base. What’s not to love?!I get to do something new every day. Building awareness around what we are doing and hearing people’s excitement.

Q: Everyone has to start somewhere! What was your first job?

A: My first job was a caddy at a private golf course. I loved it – working outside and meeting new people all the time. I caddied for governors, senators, CEOs, and professional golfers.

Q: If you could be a VC for a day, what startup would you invest in?

A: Aside from Zemanta? Tough question., I think our sister company FourSquare has a great product. Geo-based applications will also open loads of new advertising opportunities that we have yet to capitalize on.

Q: Name three people you know online, that you would like to meet in real life?

A: Sergey Brin, Matt Cutts, Rupert Murdoch

Q: Read any good books lately?

A: I read quite a bit. I am currently reading a book on JFKs speeches called Let Every Nation Know.

Q: What do you do for inspiration?

A: I shake things up when I need inspiration. You need to get out of yourself, talk to people you normally do not talk to, and not be scared to make changes. It keeps the creative juices flowing.

Thanks for sharing Greg! Stay tuned next Friday when we spotlight another member of the Zemanta team of rockstars for Meet the Team Casual Fridays!
