February ’09 release: Fresh related articles, better YouTube and Google Maps support

Posted by jure, under releases on February 26th, 2009

Continuing our quest for innovation and listening to use feedback we bring you our next update to Zemanta. This time we focused on three areas: fresh related articles for your published blogs, better support for YouTube and Google Maps and general improvements to our email integration.

Until now, related articles stayed the same in your blog post as the blogosphere continued to write about the topic. With this new feature you’ll see a link at the bottom of your new blog posts:

from fresh articles from Zemanta

more fresh articles from Zemanta

It retrieves 5 fresh articles that are not already included in the post. This feature works on all platforms that support inclusion of JavaScript in blog posts: self hosted WordPress.org, Blogger, TypePad and MovableType among others.

We’re not including this if you’re on WordPress.com or are blogging through LiveWriter because including JavaScripts is not supported by these platforms.

Second update is that we support now rich object inclusion on WordPress.com and Movable Type in addition to self hosted WordPress.org and Blogger. This means that you’ll now see YouTube videos and Google Maps in your gallery:

We also made a few small changes to the widget. Filter is now called “search” and it’s always open. This change was made because a lot of you told us that it was hard to find and that naming didn’t make sense to you. Let us know if this works better for you:

Other notable changes include better support for Gmail and Y!Mail as well as general speed improvements to the widget. On plugin front we fixed compatibility issues with qTranslate and WordPress 2.7.

    Dear Zemanta team,
I already use zemanta long time ago and i still love your apps. But in the mean time , after a couple of week found to resolve this problem, i want to uninstall zemanta from now on my blogs blogger.
The Blog Map gadget provided a highligh for post location relates on Map Google ( zemanta also supports Map Google ?) but the zemanta tab of Tags was hide “add location” button on blog post compose mode. ) Blog Map is a new feature of Blogger in Fraft).- You will seen “add location” dispappears on my screenshot below. < a href=” http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ZsEygGLChMo/SapMMeG58… tags tab hide add location button. May be zemanta make something to resolve this ?.
    Thank in advance.

Don't worry we get false bug reports all the time. However it is good when users find the true source of a bug themselves since that spares us time investigating.

I like OUR zemanta more and more. You are surprising us with new great solutions.
I think that next 'big step' should be some other languages !

I have only one 'problem' – question : few months ago I was reading that we could choose more than 1 photos from gallery. Well, I do not know, why, but I can not put more than one photos.

  • andraz

    just drag'n'drop the photos :)

I love Zemanta. It is very intelligent because it suggested my own articles a couple of times. (Smile)

How do I add this “fresh related articles” on my blog?

  • zemanta

It's added automatically for you when you use Zemanta Related articles
    feature on your blog.

hello zemanta team and zemanta users

I am using Search option. I expected than when I am using Search, that I will get photos or/and articles, connected with my search. Usually I get some photos and maybe 1 or 2 articles related to my search, but there is 'tones' of others, for which I didn't ask for with my Search.

This is good stuff. With the related articles, I'd also like to choose first from the articles I've written on my blog. That'd be huge.

  • InternetStrategist

@David That would be handy. It would be really great if we could configure whether it shows them mixed together or in separate sections.

@Zemanta What is the source of your related articles? I found out about Zemanta from the incoming links and followed them back to that feature in blogs I had not seen previously.

We manually locate the best feeds on the internet, from the pool of good
feeds that we find, vertical feeds databases that we get from our
partners and from within the content pool of our readers. You can also
    recommend your feed – http://www.zemanta.com/fan/addfeed/ – as we've
    written here.

Regarding your own articles, if you add your own feed to “My Stuff” in
Preferences, then it's going to show up as related articles for you.
