Off to Le Web 3

We are wrapping up our London experience and going to Le Web 3 in Paris next week! If you would like to meet us there, please drop me a mail!
We are quite excited about Le Web since everyone is saying how good it was last year. We are presenting there also.
In other news after countless issues we finally moved our private beta service to a hosted server, out of our living room. Hopefully we’ll open up our web page a little bit more later today.
See you at LeWeb3!

Mashup demo 2
Yesterday we presented our demo at Mashup demo 2 event. It was really rewarding to hear all the comments afterwards. Many sites were interested in using our technology. The second very exciting part is seeing what interesting things other companies are doing.
I’ll mention two. Blinkbox allows users to take a clip of well known movies, add a little bit of intro and send them to friends. It seems that the most amazing thing they’ve done is that they actually convinced (part of) Hollywood to go along! Finally! I’d just wish they’d start using some other term instead of “creative commons”, since they don’t mean Creative Commons.
Second one is Skimbit which is a site for “social decision making”. It should resonate with female audience. I have to say that Allicia (it’s founder) is amazing when presenting.

Seedcamp, investors day
As you might know, Zemanta is taking part in a Seedcamp process. Which means some initial funding and three months of work in London. Yesterday Seedcamp semi-officially ended in an event called “investors day” where all 6 teams/companies presented what we have done in last months and how we plan to take over the world in the future (starting with our respective markets).
It was quite astonishing how far all of us got since the beginning of September. Presentations were naturally all polished up, but more importantly we knew much better what we are actually talking about. At this point I’d really like to thank Reshma, Saul, all the mentors, investors and rest of the Seedcamp crowd for providing us with this great opportunity to learn, develop and progress.
With new gained experience we are now far better equipped to explore what lies ahead of us.

And now for something completely different
Filed under: london, zemanta — andraz @ 4:04 20. Nov, 2007
Yesterday we had a self imposed deadline of preparing the Zemanta experience to be ready for the first alpha testers. In contrast with Adams Douglas‘ approach to deadlines, we take ours very seriously. We went to sleep at 8am achieving all the goals that we had set.
One of the issues was that our datacenter provider had problems, so the service currently runs from the development servers. Good news is that when we woke up in the afternoon, Boštjan got mail that our beefy server is finally ready to use. More fun for next few days.
However on the other side of the deadlines reward has to await. Self imposed entertainment. Today the whole team went out to see London West End musical Spamalot. The break was well needed and deserved. And now, the larch!
British adventures and German Wings
Time flies like an arrow they say; an arrow with German wings flies higher we might add. So it is high time for us to pack those laptops and fuel our brains again.
Zemanta is going on the road again this week: me and Jure will be attending Web 2.0 Expo in Berlin, the hottest event for Web startups on the Continent. We are eager to learn from some of the best experts on the web like Kathy Sierra and Sean Park and meet friends from all over Europe, who will gather there to mingle. On Monday I will be also speaking about our experience with Seedcamp and I am hoping to inspire other young entrepreneurs to join the exciting venture of changing the world. ![]()
If somebody feels like going for a drink with us, don’t hesitate and send us an email. As they say around here: “don’t be british about it”.
Update: zemifyed!

Zemanta tech demo at MiniBar, London
Filed under: london, seedcamp, technologies, zemanta — jure @ 3:08 20. Oct, 2007
Today we held our our first public demo at the MiniBar meetup. Audiance was presented with sneak-peak preview of English version of our contextual engine. We defeated all the last-minute bugs and it worked flawlessly. A day before at the presentation in front of Tom Glocer, we learned that you should never put your demo on weird non-80 ports.
Now we are moving forward with contextual technologies (and removing buttons from the interface). If you want to be notified when we have more stuff to show to the public, sign up for our Newsletter.
