API Showcase: Zemanta for Freebase Acre

Posted by jure, under API showcase on July 18th, 2009

Freebase is an open database of the world’s information and at Zemanta we’re really excited about things that they do. We even support them through our Semantic API as one of the responses is RDF that contains Freebase identifiers.

Zemanta and Freebase on Acre

At hack day last weekend, they’ve announced 1.0 version of Acre – Freebase’s Application Hosting Platform. It’s a super exciting way to build applications on top of their data, without having to worry about hosting or the ecosystem. They provide everything, even an IDE!

While Freebase gives you access to structured data it’s still up to you to extract entities and connect them to Freebase. Here is where we can help with our API. As a nifty demo by Jamie shows, it’s really easy to query Zemanta from Acre and link the results to Freebase for further processing. You can also inspect the source and clone it into your app to build great things on top of it.

Don’t forget to tell us about it, so we can help you promote it!
